Technology is changing all the time. 300 years ago, a book printed by machines would have been inconceivable by society but every physical book would have been printed by machines. A hundred years ago, the idea that we would be able to read a book on screens would be hard to fathom and yet ebooks exist. Now we consume books in different ways, from print to ebooks to audio books, bust still there’s room for improvement.
Imagine being able to flip through pages without having to reach for your Kindle or E-reader. Whether you’re cooking or lying in bed. The E-reader Page Turner remote allows you to stay immersed in your story without interruptions. This convenience means you can multitask or unwind without the hassle of touching the screen, making your reading experience more enjoyable and seamless.
For Christmas, I got a e-reader page turner device from my brother. There’s two kinds. The kind that only moves the page forwards, and the one that does both. I have the one that does both and it’s just one of those things that works. I honestly didn’t know how much I needed it until I got it.
Why is the page turner good?
Without considering disability, the page turner enables lazy reading. The reader can have the e-reader propped up against their knees, their hands under the duvet cover and press the button to turn the page.
For the average person, turning the page of a e-reader is a simple task. Press the left or right corner of the screen and the page turns. That’s not as simple for me. Frequently, I’m fighting the Kindle because it thought I told it to move backwards and not move forwards. My only logic for this is that my left hand cannot reach far enough right to turn the page, even in portrait mode, because of how I have to hold the Kindle in the first place.
With the page turner, I don’t have to hold the Kindle. I can have it in my lap or propped up on the table. All I need is the little remote. It has two buttons on it as I have the one that can move backwards and forwards. The A button moves it back and the B button moves it forward. There is no more confusion with the Kindle. It knows what direction I want to turn the page. Finally!
Now, I can lie in bed with my knees up and the Kindle resting on them, flicking through page to page without accidentally going in the wrong direction. I know this device will not only help me but will help others who also have mobility issues.
I have a friend who I have let try my Kindle. The thing is, she spent 10 minutes trying to figure out which position she needed the Kindle to change the page. Then she would have to adjust and then repeat again to read. This remote would help her too if she ever got a Kindle, and who knows. With this remote now in existence, maybe she will.
The best bit?
The Page Turner works with the cover on!
I have a thick Kindle case. Mostly because when I brought my Kindle (Kindle 11) there wasn’t many Kindle cases to choose from yet that matched my Kindle size. I was worried that in order to use the page turner, I would have to take it out of the case. If that was the case, I would have just lived without a Kindle case. No biggie.
I get to keep the case on!
Actually, it’s even better than that. I like to read with the Kindle in landscape mode. The bezel at the bottom of the Kindle is massive. The Page Turner is still long enough to reach the screen so I still get to read in landscape mode.
Does it block reading?
The reviews on amazon say that you need a large margin to be able to use the ereader. I honestly haven’t had to adjust my margin size. It doesn’t block my text at all. However, I do read landscape. I use open dyslexic font. And I have the font large. This may be the reason the page reader doesn’t obscure my text. I can obscure the text that says: 10 minutes left in chapter / book, but honestly I don’t care about that and it doesn’t obscure it enough for me not to change that corner to the measurement I want.
I have no complaints in this area, but if you do find that it obscures text in portrait mode, you can either change your Kindle to landscape or change the layout so that the margin is larger in portrait.
Anything the Page Turner needs to work on?
Usually, when you have something like this, there’s something that needs improving. But honestly, it does exactly as it says on the tin. There’s no complications. The batteries have still lasted so I’ve not had to charge it. The company only gives you one charger to share between the page turner remote and the page turner clips, but honestly, how many of us don’t have spare usb C cables around the home now? It’s not an issue and it cuts on waste.
The two clips that change the pages paired instantly with the remote. There was no need to read the instructions. It came fully charged and the clips were clearly labelled so I knew which one changed what page size.
I’m really pleased with it and it brings accessibility to a device. I honestly can see my friend using this as much as me. It’s the only way I’ll be reading my Kindle moving forward. I’ve already read several books with it, including The Slipper and the Tree.
If you are thinking of getting this for yourself, a family member, or a friend, I would recommend getting one that changes both the pages so that if they have to go back to a previous page to understand what they just read, they can with the flick of a button without disturbing their comfort.
