Little Sea Bear has just had it’s first birthday a little under 2 weeks ago. Over that time, the site has grown and developed along with me. It has now been nominated to participate in the chain blogging exercise known as The Sunshine Blogger Award.
The Sunshine Blogger Award is a chain that goes around blogging sites and participants nominate people to take part; people who they believe are creative, positive and inspirational. The people who are nominated are asked a series of questions before they too nominate people that they believe are: creative, positive and inspirational.
I was nominated by Emma at Rock for Disability. Thank you for nominating me Emma. I hope you and others enjoy reading this blog post.
Questions Set by Emma
What or who inspired you to a a blogger?
Well, I started this site in college that I called Disability Is Us as part of my coursework. It was going to be an informational website about equipment and adaptions available for the disabled, attached to it was a blog and I liked it but at the time, I wasn’t getting anywhere.
Then at Uni, a lot of my friends had started blogging, I had learned more about writing, more about design and I decided I’d try again but focus more on the blog than on the website for the time being.
I am hoping to turn it into an information site as well as a blog one day. If any disabled bloggers—or even my fantastic readers—want to help me do that, you are most welcome.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a writer through and through. I write for the blog, I write scripts, I write stories and novels. I write. There is a screenplay that I am working on right now that I am just dying to get finished.
As a writer, I also do a lot of reading, and in a varied genre—though I never used to do that—then I go back to writing.
When I am not doing that, I am spending time with family and friends, going to national trust places, meals out, having a Netflix or film marathon. That kind of thing.
Who is your favourite band or musician and why?
I actually don’t like much lyrical music. The exceptions tend to be musicals like Oliver, Annie, Into the Woods. although there are other lyrical musics I like, such as The Carpenters and The Beatles. But, I dunno, there isn’t much of the 2000s music that I like.
I don’t know why that is. Never really thought about it. I’m mostly a classical music fan. I can listen to that all day and often do. I also listen to a lot of soundtracks.
If you could meet any famous person, alive or dead, who would it be and why!
You see, I hate these kind of questions. I’m not a celebrity fanatic. I barely know the names Maggie Smith and Morgan Freeman. I mean, they’re great actors but I like getting lost into who they are playing as at that moment than knowing who they really are.
The same goes for the queen. To me, she is a normal person. I would rather see her as that as the Queen. So, I probably wouldn’t choose someone specific to meet.
Although, I wouldn’t mind saying hello to Professor McGona- cough Maggie Smith cough I don’t think I would go out my way to meet her. I may do, I’m not sure.
If you had a time machine that could take you forward or back, which time period would you go to and why?
Oh that’s easy! I would travel to the Georgian Reign. Pirates at every corner. I mean, I like the tudors and the Stewarts too but with the Georgian Reign, there is less chance of a bloodthirsty king chopping your head of for refusing to marry him or being burned alive for being left handed, and hence, believed to be a witch.
Then you have the start of the industrial revolution, where blades and steam trains were appearing very quickly in a short period of time! My own city would be at the heart of it!
I love history, I just absolutely love it so I would want to just live and brief it for a few short hours.
If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
It depends on if you go by my name meaning, my personality or my favourite animal.
My name, Shannon, means wise owl and whenever I have done questions of this sort in online quizzes, that often pops up. I’m a Ravenclaw too, so in all honesty, I am probably an owl.
But I love polar bears, they are my favourite animal. I am happy that the initials of my name spell Sea so I can have the website name as Little Sea Bear. They are also left handed.
So, if I could pick an animal that is my favourite, it would probably be a polar bear cub.
You’re on a deserted island and you are allowed to bring one item with you? What item would you bring and why?
… Another question I hate! I have my toys and Berg which are sentimental to me but would I want them on an island where they could get dirty and ruined?
I would rather them be at home where I knew they were safe and take something like a canoe so that I could get off the island and get back to them. But I don’t think that’s how you’re meant to answer this question…
What is your dream job?
As I said somewhere above, I am a writer through and through so it might not surprise you to learn that my dream job is actually becoming a screenwriter. I am doing a Masters in October that will let me specialise in Screenwriting.
I’m looking forward to it, and will keep aiming for my future job. I am sure I’ll get there one day.
What is your most popular blog post?
Let me check…
My most liked post is one titled “I’m Back” as I was unable to blog for a few months because of Uni, so I would like to thank everyone for supporting me and welcoming me back.
The one most liked after that is Writer’s Responsibility. I would actually recommend that you have a look at that one.
My top two viewed posts are book reviews, so I must have a lot of book readers here 😉 Thank you for your support to. Here are the two posts:
My favourite post is the one about straws, I recommend that you check it out. Little Plastic Straw, Where Art Thou?
What advice would you give to other bloggers?
First of all, know that it is going to take time before you get an audience. Hundreds of people don’t just follow you overnight.
Secondly, research SEO. Make sure you are doing everything in your power to make your site SEO friendly. Put keywords in your titles and if you use wordpress, it is better to use the except tool as that is what google uses.
Lastly, keep working on it. Don’t give up.
